Post Apopcolypta

A new body of work is on the way. After much soul searching I have made the move back into the studio with a solid plan to be realised within 12 months. An obsession with an imagined post human world is the basis for an exploratory series of sketches and paintings. My artist statement will be available shortly but as this is the beginning of a rather fluid notion, it will be something that will be edited from time to time.

For the time being I will post the animated version of a book I was read at my primary school that changed me for life. Some may remember ‘When the Wind Blows’. Many years of bad dreams followed that day.

CYA in Sunny Brisbane

I have flown up to Brisbane to attend the CYA conference and push my nose further into the children’s book illustration world. It is a full day of workshops and it should help me gain invaluable insight. I hope to impress a particular publisher and also meet with other editors in hope of working more closely with this industry. I know I have the skills, I am very ready for work to come my way.

This painting is based on a line from the Rumpelstiltskin story. It is the first in a series of images I am basing on the Grimm fairy tales. I will take a better photograph of it in the coming days. This work is part of an illustration portfolio that is under construction.

Koko Black Drawing Prize 2011 Results

I am happy to announce that I was awarded a Special Commendation at this years Koko Black drawing prize. My entry is titled Birds, Dinosaurs and Monotremes. The standard of all the entries was fantastic and I was happy just to be included in a showcase of such talent. I was most impressed with the winner of the peoples choice award, Maxim Poole, who is fourteen years of age. He has such a great future ahead of him and I know that I was nowhere near as good as Maxim at fourteen. My hat is off to you Maxim. The winner,  Linda Garland, was deserving as her illustration was immaculate and loaded with historical reference. The other recipient of a Special Commendation, Ainsley Wright was my personal favourite to win.

The presentation night was a treat with chocolate and champagne being offered to all. I have to admit that this was the perfect way to start my return to public exhibition as I had only one piece to focus on with a theme being set by Koko Black. I highly recommend entering next year to any reader who is artistically inclined, I know that I will be back for another shot next year.

Images of the artworks are available on the Koko Black website.

Arts Events & What’s on – Made in Brunswick – balancing art and buildings – artsHub.com.au | The Australian Arts Portal

This is an important gathering which I may or may not be able to attend. If you are an inner north Melbourne artist it is a chance to be involved in some innovative discourse.

An Introduction. Luke Adam Sinclair. Artist.

Luke Adam Sinclair was born in the bushy, outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne. At school he was known as a talented artist who was also an aspiring young Air Cadet. Later, when he moved to inner-city Melbourne, he forgot about flying planes and immersed himself in painting, drawing, and Melbourne’s indie-rock scene. He completed a Diploma of Visual Arts at RMIT in 1997, and graduated from Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Arts) in 2006. He currently lives in Melbourne’s inner-north with his wife and young son, and works as an artist.

Luke began painting and drawing on anything and everything as a child, including his maths books and bedroom walls, and later went on to illustrate a number of small publications for his school and other organisations in his teenage years. His love of techno and pop culture images soon merged with his fine art training, and this playful mix of high and low themes continues in his work today. Luke has also worked as a teacher of art, digital illustration and web and game animation at secondary schools around Victoria. In 2011 he was awarded a Special Commendation for his illustration ‘Birds, Dinosaurs and Monotremes’ in the KokoBlack Easter Drawing Prize.
